Day Hike - Accessible

December 3, 2022 | 10:30 AM EST
Venture Out Center (540 Beamer Way)

Let’s take a hike! On this trip we will travel to a local trailhead for a group hike. Transportation, food, and instruction are included. During the trip we will play games, take in the scenery, walk along a gentle path, listen to the sounds of nature, learn about local plants and wildlife, and discuss how to care for the environment. We will provide guidance to help form a supportive group that enjoys the outdoors together.

This hike is designed to be accessible. The hiking trail we choose will meet Forest Service accessibility guidelines, meaning it will be an even stable surface (crushed rock, pavement, or stable soil), be at least 36 inches in width, and have a slope of no more than 5%. There will be spots to rest and admire the scenery along the hike as well as a planned picnic lunch. We encourage people with disabilities to register.

If you are an individual with a disability and desire an accommodation, we are here to help! Please contact Venture Out at ventureout@vt.edu or 231-4982 during regular business hours at least five business days prior to the event.

If you desire that a caretaker or personal aide accompany you during the event, please contact us so that we can plan for their attendance at no additional cost. This trip will meet at 10:30am at the Venture Out Center.
