Juanisha Brooks

I am a 2008 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.A. in Communication (Broadcast concentration) and Psychology double major. Currently, I am a Video Producer for the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C with a background in broadcast news.

My recent work includes serving as a Media Coordinator for the CNN Washington bureau where I helped produce political coverage for the network and the Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer during election season 2012.  I received my start in broadcasting after being selected out of more than 8,000 applicants nationwide to be a part of the prestigious NBC Page Program, and next worked as a Production Assistant at the MSNBC headquarters in New York City.

As an undergraduate at Virginia Tech, I was selected as a Fellow for the International Radio and Television Society, received the Steger Award for Undergraduate Poetry awarded by Nikki Giovanni, was awarded the VT NAACP Female Undergraduate of the Year Award and was a finalist for Undergraduate Woman of the Year.

I am highly passionate about diversity and received the Student Support Systems Grant by University Admissions to mentor incoming students at Virginia Tech and raise awareness about diversity.  I also displayed leadership as an Ambassador for the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences and as a result, I was awarded the Outstanding Service Award by the Communication Department.

I look forward to being a part of the Multicultural Alumni Advisory Board so that I can continue to give back to my university which gave so much to me.
